The stairs
are wide enough for them to go up side by side, with
Grizz holding the jar of bugs up in front so they can
see their way. On the way, he runs off at the mouth, as
is his habit at times when he is excited.
"Ya
know, Nica," he says, "When I saw that page in the DRC
book, I was just so astounded. That picture looks
exactly like the arch of Kerath. But I really wonder
about that. It seems to violate the rule on linking
within an ege. So I got to wondering if it really was
the Arch of Kerath..."
Suddenly there was enough
light to see without the bugs. Grizz stopped, and handed
the jar to Veronica, who put it back in his
pack.
She looked at Grizz, her eyes shining with
excitement.
"Were almost at the top. What do you
think is up there. Oh I'm so excited! C'mon slowpoke.
Let's hurry. Oh I can't wait..."
Grizz put his
finger on her lips. He grinned at her.
"What are
you standing around here for?" he said. "Get on up there
and take a look. I'm right behind you."
Veronica
laughed, and ran up the last curve of steps to an open
door. She stopped in the doorway, and just stared with
her mouth open.
Grizz came and stood beside her.
He looked a little stunned as well.
"Toto," he
said, "I don't think we're in Kansas any
more.

Magenta Planets - Adventure on the
High Seas, continued
Once Chuckles58
removed his rose-colored glasses, everything looked
normal again. He was getting hungry and looked around
for something to eat. He'd been stranded on the desert
island for less than 12 hours, hadn't showered or shaved
since yesterday morning. He was beginning to feel
desperate:
Just
then a half eaten fish head washed up on shore. He
retrieved it then reluctantly began to nibble on
it.
Thanks a lot Seymour!

Grizz looks at Veronica, wondering just
how upset she would be if he picked her up and tossed
her into what might be an ocean, or is it just a large
lake?

Magenta Planets - Adventure on the
High Seas, conclusion
After his
meager breakfast, Chuckles58 finds what little shade the
two palm trees provide, and falls into a fitful sleep.
As he is sleeping, something is bumping into his side,
like its trying to get his attention.
No
mother, I don't want to go to school today. I'm
sunburned and I have a tummy ache.
Just then
he wakes up and notices what was trying to wake
him:
Hello,
I'm Wilson. Have you been here long?
Oh hi Wilson, I'm
Chuckles58. It seems like I've been here for three
years, but I've only been here since late last
night.
Did you
know you have barnacles in your hair?
Yes, I'm not really
having a very good day. Hey, do you want to play
volleyball? ... ... OK, never mind. Wilson, do you have
any idea where we are?
On a desert island, DUH!
Well, I
was testing a new computer game my Bahro programmers
were developing ...
At the word 'computer' a
strange sound began, like wind chimes, accompanied by a
shimmering materialization on the little
island.
A holodeck control arch (from Star Trek - Next
Generation) appeared only a few feet from them. Wilson,
we're saved! I'll get back to my World Security Agency
office in Takotah Alley, and you my little round friend,
will be back where you can be properly appreciated:
Wow! What are we waiting for,
let's get off this stinkin' island!

Veronica strolled away from Grizz,
sensing that he might need a little space at the moment.
She picked her way carefully over the sharp rocks,
grateful for the heavy duty hiking boots she chose to
wear, rather than her tennis shoes, but it was still
very slippery. The wind was gusting and was causing the
waves to kick up and splash high unto the
shore.
Grizz called out, "Don't go
far!"
"I won't!!"
After slipping several
times, she moved closer to the trees and dryer
ground.
"Don't go too far, I
said!"
"Grizz, I think there is something moving
over here in these trees." She goes to
investigate.
Grizz looks at where she's going, and
realizes she won't get far. The band of trees is quite
narrow. She probably sees a glimpse of waves on the
other side of the narrow spit of land they are
on.
He turns and looks back at the way they came.
The door was in the base of a large structure much like
the arch of Kerath. But they certainly weren't in a
cavern. As much as Grizz loved the cavern, it was good
to be under open sky. And what a sky! It seemed huge.
The air was like lead crystal it was so transparent, and
everything looked crisp and clean. He turned and looked
down the other way, past the rocky
outcropping.
"Veronica," he called, "when you're
done doing whatever it is you're doing, I have something
to show you."
He walked a few steps. On one side
of the arch, where Veronica was, the land was very
narrow. On the other side, it began to widen out, and he
realized the arch stood almost on the end of the narrow
spit of land. On the other side, there was a band of
trees, or at least tree-like vagetation, and beyond
that, the land rose into low hills, with rocky humps
exposed in them.
"Veronica," he called again,
sounding excited, "I really think you would be
interested in
this."

Veronica stared in puzzlement at the
object floating at the water's edge. Looking up and down
the stretch of beach, she laughed and shook her head.
She could have sworn she heard something, it had almost
sounded like a call for help. She picked it up so she
could show Grizz.
"Hey look what I found on the
other side of those trees." She handed it to him. "What
do you make of it?"
The Queen of Wicked
strikes again. . . . . erm...coff...where
were we.
Grizz looked at what Veronica held. He
took it from her for a moment, and held it up level with
his face, as if carrying on a conversation. Then he
said...
"I don't know exactly what it is or how
it got here, but I think I know who might have lost it!
Is there room in
your pack, or would you like me to carry
it?

Wilson, may I
repeat..."This is a family st...venture. I thought
soccer ball more in keeping with that, soccer players
commonly wearing clothes...coff. As to the wedgie, you
might ask chuckles when you see him.

Veronica considered Grizz's question
carefully, then she took the volleyball, tossed it in
the air and smacked it as hard as she could,
sending it sailing through the air and back into the
lake, that might be an ocean.
"I'm sure whoever
it belongs to can afford to buy another one. Besides,
that one has paint all over it."
In the
distance, as the tide swept Wilson
further and further out to sea, a faint cry could be
heard.
"Grizz, come on let's go!" Veronica
tugged on Grizz's sleeve, she was anxious to continue on
their
journey.
Chuckles58 carries Wilson into
the holodeck control arch. Chuckles presses the "End
Program" button.
After the colored bar at the
bottom of the screen finished going all the way to the
right, they materialized back at the computer
workstation in Magenta Planets' offices. Realizing that
he is now only inside a computer game, as opposed to
being inside a computer game inside a computer game, he
felt he was making progress at getting back to
Ae'gura.
He set Wilson down on the floor and
filled out the evaluation forms nearby the workstation,
leaving his comments for Round Mueller and staff as to
his gaming experience.
Well, Wilson, I told
them that it was a thrilling experience, and that I look
forward to them getting the bugs worked out.
Looking at Wilson, who'd rolled over to the
corner of the room, displaying a pop-up "?" and
"X".
There's the exit key. It's time to leave
now, Wilson.
He went over, picked up Wilson,
and stepped on the "X". They were soon sitting in front
of the Bahro workstation. Both Chuckles and Wilson
remove their 3D virtual reality head
gear.
That was amazing. You Bahro are to be
commended on your creativity and attention to detail. I
think the program is ready for the bells and whistles to
be added. Then all we have to worry about is whether
LiquorCooChee, Hogarth1 and associates will immediately
begin to hack the game.
