Just as Veronica and Grizz see the two
men burst forth from the forest, a louder, more ominous
sound can be heard in the distance. The volume begins to
increase steadily and they feel the earth begin to
vibrate beneath their feet as the roar grows louder and
closer. The cacophony assails their ears, just as the
source of the sound becomes known to them when this
group crashes through the bank of trees.
Veronica gasped, "What
the heek?"
Grizz laughed, "Whew, that had
me worried for a minute. Looks like the Bahro and, um,
company just want to join us."
"Grizz."
"I
hope Cruiser knows about this. I'd hate for her to worry
needlessly."
"Grizz?"
"Fascinating,
really. How did they all arrive here I
wonder?"
"Grizz!"
"Yes, what is it? I'm
standing right here, no need to
yell."
"Grizz!!!"
He finally realizes that
the troop is bearing down on them at a rapid pace with
NO signs of slowing down. He turns and grabs Veronica
around the waist, hoisting her up onto a nearby branch.
He warns, "Don't move from that spot!" He begins to run
for all he is worth, while Veronica watches from her
perch in the tree. As the group runs by they call out to
her, "Hello!"
Veronica yells back, "Hello Lewis
and Clark and....good day to you."
"Hello, Barry,
Benny, Betty and Keith."
"Um...hello Barry,
Benny, Betty and Keith."
"Erm...hello Barry,
Benny, Betty and Keith."
"Good heavens! Hello
Barry, Benny, Betty and Keith."
As she watches
the group continue to gain ground on her partner she
yells at the top of her lungs, "RUN FASTER!!" And then,
"I THINK BEING QUIET IS A MOOT POINT NOW, DON'T YOU
AGREE?!?!"
Grizz pelts down the other side of the
hill like a stripped a.... erm, never mind... just
really, really fast, K? He suddenly ducks around a large
boulder and drops gasping to the ground. Lewis and Clark
come on strong, having achieved their second wind, one
on each side of the stone, and on up the other hill. A
stream of Barry's and Bennys goes by on one side, while
a stream of Bettys and Keiths goes by on the other.
Grizz stays put. The crowd tops the next hill and the
noise dies away.
Grizz wipes his forehead. Then
he wonders what happened to Veronica. Perhaps she fell
out of that tree!?!?
He'd better go
see. He starts back the way he came, a worried look on
his face, and suddenly he finds himself running again,
worried, worried,worried, mind you, about
the little mi...erm. About poor Veronica, who, even when
she is behaving decorously, manages to find some way to
have ... interesting?... dangerous?... (Oh heek, you
decide!) things happen around
her.

Grizz arrives panting back at the tree
where he placed Veronica. His worries were needless. He
finds her sitting on the ground, back to the tree, eyes
closed in bliss.
He just stands and stares for a
moment. Then he understands, rather he smells out the
reason. Chocolate! She's sitting there eating chocolate
while he's running for his life, and worried,
worried, about her to boot.
He goes to her
and stands in front of her, about to give her his
sternest expression, when he hears a sound.
He
looks back the way he just came, and sees Lewis and
Clark headed back this way! Behind them is a dark crowd
that looks like all arms and legs, and sounds like a
miniature tornado. And they're heading right back the
way they came.
Grizz doesn't stop to think. He
just grabs Veronica's hand and takes off back towards
the tree belt, towing Veronica along so fast that she
can hardly keep her feet under
her.
Grizz!
Keep
running!
Gr-i-i-zzz!
Keep running!
Faster!
Gri- i- i- i- zzz!
He pays no
attention, pulling Veronica through the trees using the
rather wide path made by Barry, Barry, Barry, Barry,
Barry, Benny....well you get the idea.
When he
gets to the beach, he doesn't even hesitate. He turns,
throws Veronica over his shoulder, and takes off for the
water, jumping off the end of a large flat rock, right
into a large breaking wave.
The world turns cool
and green.
The chase comes through the trees,
Lewis and Clark electing to go down the beach rather
then into the water, and the Bahro follow them. The
crowd dwindles to a small black smudge on the
horizon.
When the water recedes, Grizz sits up
and looks around. Veronica struggles to her feet,
dripping, hair streaming, sputtering and choking, and
looking at him like she could knock him into next week.
He just sits there and grins at
her.
"Consequences." he says.
She stares,
then she bursts into laughter, falls to her knees and
begins to splash water at Grizz as fast as she
can.

By the time Grizz and Veronica have left
the water, run about on the beach to dry off, and made
their way back to the tops of the first line of hills
beyond the shore, it has grown quite late. Grizz decides
that they should not travel by night, because the
country is so unknown.
They make a sort of
campsite at the brow of one of the hills with a sort of
hollow near the top for shelter. They share a cold
supper of items from their packs, and a thermos of
coffee that still has some heat. Then they sit in
companionable silence and watch the sunset before curling up in the light
sleeping bags which had been strapped to the bottoms of
their packs.
Grizz chuckles a bit, and
says... "Say goodnight, Veronica."
"Goodnight
Veronica," she
replies.

Continuity check: OK
everybody, that was fun, but at the moment, we have the
original Lewis & Clark on Neligahn with
Speedy/Grassy/FM/DrWarrell/Merlin. Then we have both
sets of L&C's and all five sets of
Barry/Benny/Betty/Keiths chase down the beach in
Grizz/Veronica's adventure. Then yesterday, all 20 Bahro
linked back to the Institution then off to Elkae's Relto
for the "Barry and the Hendersons" movie.
Aside
from that, everything appears as it should be. Now back
to the story
... ------------------------------------------ Meanwhile
back in the Institution, snooping around in
Stellaflora's lab:
This appears to be a highly
sophisticated laboratory. Look at all the test tubes and
cool machinery.
There's no ... Kryptonite anywhere here is
there?
Just then, Ghost Stellaflora, minding
the lab, wakes up. "Can I help you
gentlemen?" ---------------------------- Good, now
we have two complete sets of each accounted for. ---------------------------- Master
of Manipulating Stories (MOMS) Director of
Redirecting Kinesis (DORK)
{Ghost Stellaflora, Supprised at having
these two strangers stroll in as bold as brass, greets
them}
[GS] "Can I help you gentlemen? you are
very fortunate that the labs security system is
currently non-funtional, I have been busy with other
things. Would you like me to give you a tour of the
lab?"
[-ot] It's gone 5am here, anybody feel
free to use GS to give these gentlemen a tour of the
lab, be as imaginative as you like
For the purposes of continuity, all Lewises and Clarks
and Bahros have been cloned and are running amok in the
DRC age.
OT: Veronica
snuggles further under the blanket, reluctant to leave
her dream.
She has been given a credit card
with no spending limit. She is standing on a corner in
New York City, prepared to enter the garment district,
when a loud rumbling is heard and the ground beneath her
feet begins to vibrate. She smiles, thinking that the
subway seems awfully close.
Slowly opening
her eyes, Veronica rolls over to glare at Grizz who is
snoring loud enough to wake the dead. That must have
been what woke her. Taking her pillow, she hurls it
across the campsite and it hits the mark with a
thump. Grizz sits up, "Wha-Wh-..." She yanks the
blanket over her head, trying to recapture the dream,
but the only thing she can still hear is the subway. The
rumbling is so real, that she can even feel the ground
vibrating under her. "Oh heek, not again. Please." She
sits up on her elbows and sure enough, in the distance
she can see the returning horde.
"What the heek,
don't they ever stop?!"
"GRIZZ!! Do
something about them, would you
please?
Grizz sleepily sits up. He thinks for a
bit, though admittedly that isn't easy this early in the
morning. Then he fumbles for his pack and searches
around in it until he finds what he is looking for.
There are two or three items spread out. They are
inflatable. He takes a small hand pump from a side
pocket of the pack and works madly to inflate all of
them. Then he moves down the hill a little way from
where they are camped, and lines the items up across the
path. He looks at his work for a moment, and, satisfied,
goes back and curls up in his sleeping bag to resume his
interrupted
sleep.

A
loud voice can be heard over the rumbling and vibrations
that stop the Lewis and Clarks and the chasing Bahro in
their tracks. "Stop this foolishness right now" shouts
Cruiser across the ages. "All Bahro get your rear ends
back to the Institute immediately, we are ready to start
your etiquette and beauty lessons." Thinking to herself,
silly Bahro chasing all over the ages disrupting the
continuity. The Bahro hearing
this announcement shrug their shoulders and one at a
time start to link.
I love these
bahro...I do! They have been a great source of
entertainment...thank you Kestryll for the names that
started this...hehehe
OT:
Total
silence. Complete and utter stillness. Veronica peeked
over the edge of her blanket to see Grizz peeking too.
"Where did the Bahro go?" She asked in
puzzlement.
"They've been called home. Go back to
sleep."
