Speedy sits back (ok, fine, she can't
sit exactly since the cage she's in forces her to stand
the entire time since there is no more room), and thinks
about what has happened. 1. The group has gotten
captured by these tall beings that wear helments with
antlers and seem to say NI all of the time. 2. They
are called knights, according to unknown person in the
same hall. 3. There is an unknown person in the same
hall, someone who doesn't have a nice temper, so it
seems... 4. Merlin has telepathy. Cool deal, but he
is the only one who does, so how is communication going
to work if telepathy requires so much energy. 5. No
one had their backpacks with them in the cells. 6.
She has an itch on her back but she can't move to reach
it! "Ok, knights, or whatever you are! I demand a
bigger cage! Can't you see that I am a tall bird and not
some parakeet!?!?!" Speedy shouted. "Do you really
think that they will listen to you?" came the deep voice
again with a chuckle. "Hey, it's worth a shot... I
can't move!" Speedy said. "Well, then it's perfect,"
said the voice again as he chuckled and got
quiet. Co-Manager of Age & Country Hotel; Capable of

In Negilahn: With the proximity of
their cells so close they can easily communicate
verbally, the prisoners still think the telepathy would
make a neat party trick once they get back to the
Institution.

"Sir! Sensors have readings of sound
coming from the jail cells..." "Eh, whatever knave.
Let them talk," "But one of them is demanding a
bigger cell, sir," "Which one?" "It sounds like
the bird..." "How big is it?" "Well, Knave
Connelson said he had a hard time putting it
in..." (sigh) "Let it deal with it for the evening.
In the morning, we'll move it," "As for the
others?" "If it gets too active down there, then
we'll do something..." "But the gnome is talking,
sir," "He is, now? Well, let's keep them talking
then... he he he he he"

When the light suddenly returned, Grizz
landed on ground with a thump. He was facing a
desert-like landscape. Veronica was gone. He hadn't even
felt it when she let go of his shirt. But somehow, it
wasn't really surprising considering what C'nomy had told them. And there was no
sign of the porfessor either. AT this point Grizz didn't
know whether the prof. had even followed them into the
pit or not. But somehow he felt that the challenge would
be irristible to the professor.
Then Grizz heard
what sounded like a door closing behind him. He spun
around quickly, and saw her.

"Hey, just so
all of you know, now that I have hada chance to warm up,
it's not that hard to do. I was just a bit rusty. Also,
don't mention my ability out loud, the knights might be
listening."

"There are five of us altogether, Grub,"
said FM. "Sheesh, quite a party we have down here
then... heh heh heh..." Grub chuckled. "Umm... I
guess yes indeed..." said Grassie, trying to see where
Grub is. "Well, we have plenty of time to get
acquainted. The knights won't be back until the
morning," said Grub. "WHAT! And leave me here,
standing all night!" Speedy squawked. "Yep, that is
their style alright. Their method of easy torture..."
Grub said. "Torture?" gulped Dr Warrell. "Yep,
torture. You be lucky if you don't get the ultimate
torture... heh heh heh, pretty darn cruel to the
non-gnome types..." Grub chuckled. "Ultimate
torture?" gulped Dr Warrell. "Don't worry, Warrell,
we'll be fine!" said Merlin. "That's what you
think... if you don't appease them, you just may get
it!" said Grub. "What is this ultimate torture?"
Speedy asked. Her legs were aching. "Oh, if I even
describe it, it will be torturous. It's too sensitive to
your ears. Here's a hint: You got a little taste of it
when they moved you into your respective
cells..." The forumites gasped. "Yep, that's how
it is around here..." said Grub. "Wait, so how to
they torture you then?" asked Grassie. "Heh! They
don't torture me! I torture them!" said Grub. "Huh?"
said FM, Merlin, and Dr Warrell at the same
time. "You see, they can't hurt me. If they do, then
my kind, the jungle gnomes, will reek havoc in this
world. And in the meantime, I have something of value to
them, but I ain't telling them anything about it!" said
Grub proudly. "What is it you're hiding?" asked
Speedy. "I said I ain't telling. They have listening
devices in here, so they know that we are talking. Your
Merlin friend here has a special talent... use it if you
need to," said Grub.

isn't going to say anything..." "Keep me informed if
he does!")

Grizz was momentarily astounded. He
hadn't seen Yeesha since the time in the Cleft on the
desert. It made sense in a way, but why he, Grizz, to be
apparently called to her presence?
She motioned
for him to come and sit on the bench. As he did, he
recognized where he was. Yeesha confirmed his awareness
as she spoke.
"You are the one called Grizz. Many
are called... few respond. This is a place of many
memories. It was here I lived for a time with my mother
and my beloved father. I use this place still as a
meeting point for those who are called and can
answer.
The tree grows... the cavern lives...
growing is always better than rebuilding. The Bahro
choose... some are found compatible... some are found
wanting.
You and your companions have been
chosen. There are many tasks to be done. Confirmation is
a help to some... and some need reassurance that they
are on the right path. Your companions each have been
chosen... they must look within to discover the path...
to aid the regrowth... to thwart the rebuilding.
As the tree grows more will be called... more
will find their way to me here... more will find within
themselves the tasks they are to perform.
For you
there is reassurance... for you there is the certain
knowledge that the Bahro often choose well. For your
companions, there is uncertainty in you. You may be
called to their paths. Only you will know... only you
will know the way..."
Yeesha stoppped speaking.
She stood in front of Grizz and looked at him
searchingly. Then a fleeting smile came to her
face.
"Shorah!" she said, and faded from
view.

By the way, while
you're there, can you check if the Releeshahn (thanks
Merlin) book is still there? And did Atrus and Catherine
install a sprinkler system after the J'nanin incident?

"Is there any hope for us?" whimpered Dr
Warrell. "Oh, don't be such a lilliputty!" said
Grub. "A what?" asked FM. "A lilliputty. You know,
that animal with two skinny legs, 2 long tails, that
likes to hop around, and is scared of anything and
everything?" asked Grub. "Um... never seen one..."
said Merlin. "That's probably cuz it's fled before
you could even see it! It don't like them big beings
such, particularly the Dibbiluckis or Brontusaphis. Man,
those are big suckers!" said Grub. "Wait, the
Dibbiluckis... the bird-like things that say HAR?" asked
Speedy. "Yep," "And the Brontusaphis... big huge
bug things?" asked Grassie. "Well, I guess you could
describe them that way... peaceful creatures though.
Don't seem to care much for anything really," said
Grub. "Dang, does anyone have any paper to write
those names down?" asked Speedy. "Sorry but I don't
have my backpack," said Grassie. "Same here," said FM
and Dr Warrell. "Merlin?" asked Speedy. "Nope,
sorry, but I will try to remember those names though,"
said Merlin. "Well, you better hope that you have a
good memory then... why do you want to write those names
down?" asked Grub. "Um... we'll tell you later..."
said Merlin. "Fine by me. I'm spent! Goodnight!" said
Grub.

Professor T hurled the (empty)
chamberpot at the window. This had been his intention
all along, despite others' expectations. Unfortunately,
the pot merely bounced off the glass and the professor
had to duck to avoid being hit by it. Neither the window
nor the pot had broken - not even a crack. Well, there
had to be some way out of the room. It was something of
a puzzle. Hmmm. Thinking cap on.
It's funny what little things can spark the imagination.
I have the next few postings in "The Title of Thietris"
story written and have the whole thing mapped out - with
the exception of the ending.
Professor T sat on the bed
and stared at the picture over the desk: Lewis and
Clark, and the young Shoshone Indian woman, Sacagawea.
Such an extraordinary expedition ... explorers, just
like Thietris and his companions. Perhaps Sacagawea was
a little like Yeesha.
He jumped on to the desk to
take a closer look at the picture. It moved slightly as
he touched the frame. Carefully, he removed the picture
from the wall.
He continued to advance on Veronica
until suddenly she yelled, "Stop right there!" He was so
stunned, he did exactly that.
"I sent you back
home. I remember doing that distinctly. What is your
name again?"
"My name is..."
Veronica
waved her hand dismissively. "Nevermind, I didn't listen
to any of your speeches or read your journals the first
time I was here. I certainly do not want to hear
them now." She lowered her voice and looked around. "If
someone named Kestryll should stop by here, don't tell
him I told you that."
The man glared in anger and
started on yet another tirade. "I have been left here
by..."
"Yes, yes...poor you. What is it
you want with me?" She looked around to be sure he had
no hammer, remembering the last time they met, she
choose the wrong solution to the puzzle and met with a
very bad
end.
