"Still no sign of
Grub," says he as he closes the door.
"I am
getting hungry, though," says Grassie.
"Maybe he
won't come back?" says Speedy.
"Nah, he might be
grumpy, but he doesn't strike me as the type..." starts
Merlin.
"But he did strike you, unless you've
forgotten," says Grassie.
"But he didn't know it
was me, he thought it was
a..."
~~~~~~~~
SLAM! BANG! CRASH!
SPLAT! "Who changed it to Batman? Change the channel
back!"
--------
Thud!
Merlin was
lying on his chest, rubbing the back of his
head.
"Are you okay Merlin? Do you have a
concussion?" asks Grassie.
"I'm fine, really. But
what was that? It hit me like a ton of bricks!" answers
Merlin.
"That was, um, me," says Grub. "It's not
my fault though! You should know better than to stand in
front of brick
doors!"
Thanks, but if you've played any of the
MYST games, of course you've seen brick
doors.
Although I also thought that
the
"hit me like a ton of
bricks"
and
"stand in front of brick
doors"
would spark a
giggle.
Grizz and Veronica
link into the alley very near Chuckles' security office.
Strangely, there doesn't seem to be anyone there,
although there are a number of bent and mangled golf
clubs lying about. But there isn't time to worry about
that.
They turn to the end of the alley, where
the ruins lie, and wait for the GZ beam. When it comes,
and the sign appears, they step into it
together.
They don't even pause to look around in
the Dr's room, but go right into the Great Shaft and
take the upward path. Normally, either the upward or the
downward path just gets darker and narrower, but this
time, there is a hint of light far up the path. It is
too narrow to walk side by side, so Grizz lets Veronica
take the lead.
Neither of them speak, and that
is so unlike Veronica that Grizz marvels, but says
nothing. Finally they reach the point where the origin
of faint light can be seen clearly. Veronica turns and
grabs Grizz's arm, eyes shining, and points at the source of the light.
Grizz
merely nods, his own eyes taking on a strange glitter.
They edge closer, and when they are near enough, without
even thinking about it, they join hands and enter the
lights together.
When they have gone, the lights
flare brightly once, and then they fade away and
disappear altogether, leaving the Great Shaft in
darkness once
again.
Chuckles58 steps out of his WSA
security office in Takotah Alley. He sees the mangled
golf clubs lying outside.
Looks like Cordelia
didn't do as well this time she borrowed my Golf Outing
Linking Facilitator (GOLF). She returned the GOLF
device, but I recognize her clubs.
Yes Elkae, the Channelwood hole is
beautiful. Check out #3 on the Kadish Tolesa
course:
I especially like this one because I grew up
in Northern California and loved the Redwood
trees.
As he was looking to hit his approach
shot on the #3 Kadish Tolesa hole, Quahog was beside
himself with indecision over his shot
selection
(L)Looks like a 5 iron. (R)No,
it's a 6
iron. (L)5 (R)6 (L)5 (R)6 (L)Hey, I'm the
golfer today, you're just the caddy. (R}Yes, and as
your caddy I insist on the 6 iron. (L)OK, I'll hit
the 6 iron.
He hits the ball short of the
green. (L)I knew I should have hit the 5
iron. (R)You just didn't hit the 6 iron hard
enough.
Now we all know the madness Quahog
must live with every day. Plus the real reason he
mis-hit that shot ... he didn't keep his heads
down.
"I think we should
head back to the others, just to see how they are
holding up," Speedy suggested. "Sounds like a
plan..." Grassie said. Merlin was trying to stand up but
he was having difficulty in doing so. The room and brick
doors were spinning all around him. "Oh geez..." he
muttered as he looked for support. Speedy gave him a
wing. "Yep, and for Merlin's safety as well..."
Speedy commented. "Well, what would you need me for?"
asked Grub. "I don't know. You want to come back with
us?" asked Merlin. "Actually, if you don't mind, but
I would like to leave this rockhole. I haven't been in
familiar ground in over 300 years," Grub said. "Wait,
how old are you?" asked Grassie. "That is something
you never ask a gnome!" Grub snapped. "Sorry,"
Grassie pouted. "Umm... I guess that is ok then, if
no one has a problem with that..." Speedy said. "Hold
on! When the knights find us, we're going to be sent
back to the cells for sure! Grub, do you think you can
help us out by helpig us escape?" asked Merlin. "But
what about Dr Warrell and FM?" asked Speedy. "Well, I
was thinking maybe he could bring back his gnome army
and attack the knights..." Merlin suggested. "Hrm...
would that be effective?" asked Grassie as he looked at
Grub for an answer.
