It only takes a moment to arrive at your Relto. It's a
beautiful place, you'll see.
Elkae opens the
book on Natika's hip, takes hold of her hand, and they
press the picture together. They disappear from the
Kahlo Pub and in the blink of an eye reappear together
on a small island.

Oh, this is very pretty. Look at the
waterfall, and the thing with pictures, that one looks
like me and I've seen that place before. My head is
spinning and I seem to have a bump on the back of my
head. Thank you for bringing me here, I'm sure there is
much more for me to see.

tightly.
Shusssssssssh. It's okay. It's
alright. You're finally home. We know you as Cruiser.
You've been one of us for a long time. Don't be afraid.
We'll help you.
A cloud of fireflies flit
around the two friends as they hug for a moment in
silence.

Natika is sobbing now and the exhaustion
is starting to have its affect on her. "Thank you Dr.
Elkae for helping me, I am so tired. I just need to lie
down and rest for a while. I will look for you tomorrow
if you have time to talk to me again." It doesn't take
any time for her to fall asleep, Dr. Elkae covers her
with a blanket and links to her own Relto.
*Meanwhile, back at the pub, jahuti
ponders the question of whether or not to try drugs
again. But he realizes that it would only make
reality even less believable. He heaves a sigh and hopes
Cruiser recovers from her amnesia... Nice kid, that. He
finishes his Guinness and leaves for his own
Relto*

Elkae linked back to her Relto. She
poured a cup of coffee and sipped it in silence as Uru
Dawg and Polly scampered across the island in a strange
game of tag. Bizzy asked Elkae what was wrong and she
explained.
"Do you think she'll be alright by
herself?" asked Bizzy?
"No, I
don't."
"Then go back and stay with
her."
Elkae thought for a moment and decided
Bizzy was right. She went back into the hut, filled a
thermos, and linked back to Natika's Relto to keep
watch.
Natika had one more thing to learn: that
she'd always been Natika.

Shortly after Dr Elkae linked back to
Natika's Relto, she hears her talking in her sleep. *No,
my name is Natika, that is what my parents named me,
no..what ping pong ball, a squirrel no way...insane
maybe...ZZZZZZ

Elkae pulled a clean washrag from the
closet, wet it in the pool, and put it on Natika's
forehead. Then she turned on the music player, very low,
hoping it would sidetrack Natika's
nightmare.

Natika seemed to be sleeping more
comfortably now. Elkae leaned back against the wall of
the hut and closed her eyes. She had stayed awake as
long as she could, but sleep finally overtook
her.

Professor Thietris is making
preparations for his departure to the Mother-in-Law
Age.
"Elkae and Kestryll, I might have to leave
at short notice, so I'd like to hand over the day-to-day
running of the Institution to you both now.
"I
see Grizz has set up a new dining place - and what a
fine establishment it looks! When I return I shall
definitely be visiting The Side Door. Of course, this
might leave you a bit short on things to do. So if there
are any areas of the Institution that you think might
benefit from a makeover, please feel free. I did have a
page of research topics that still need doing, but I
seem to have mislaid it.
"I'm going to miss this
place. I worry about all the explorers on their
adventures and the people on their cruise. They're
always in my thoughts and I and hope they're all
okay.
"But I'll keep in touch and let you know
how I'm getting on with all the puzzles in the
Mother-in-Law Age. They're bound to be
challenging.
"I don't like goodbyes. But, with
any luck, I won't be gone too long. And I'm sure I'll
still be able to make it to Elkae's Relto for cocoa
sometimes."
Thietris is anticipating an imminent disconnection of
his broadband service in advance of his house move, but
expects it to be reavailable very early in
June.
Natika slowly sits up on the bed,
confused about where she is.
There is someone
asleep in the chair across the room. This must be Dr.
Elkae who rescued her last night, thought Natika, but I
thought she had left.
Not wanting to wake the
sleeping Dr., Natika covers her with a blanket and walks
outside to explore. The bump on her head is very sore,
she can't seem to remember how she got
it...

Relaxing on the boat, Cordelia thinks
about the professor. Oh how much she is missing working
for him. But she knows that she will be back in the
Institution soon and hopefully he will survive the
Mother-in-Law Age and will return happy, if not well
rested

Elkae is awakened by the sound of
Natika bumping her foot against a log. She peeks out the
door and sees Natika standing there. Not sure whether to
play possum, link home or go out and greet her she waits
patiently in the hut for Natika to
return.

Cordelia is still puzzled by the
apparent disappearance of her friend Cruiser. She does
not seem to be on the boat anywhere at all
She lays back on
her bed and closes her eyes. Slowly a vision comes to
her of Cruiser safe on an island with Dr Elkae looking
over her.
She awakes with a start not sure
whether it was a dream or something more. Whatever it
was, Cordelia is certain that it was true and that
Cruiser was safe and being well looked after

Elkae needs to get back to the
Institution to continue cleaning her new office and
prepare for her duties as Cordie's temp. She leaves a
note for Natika before linking out.

I hope you will find your true self here
on the island—the island Yeesha gave you. You have taken
the first journey, gone to D'ni and soon you will follow
the path of the shell. When you walk, walk with us and
take comfort in our friendship. We are here whenever you
need us.

boatingirl wakes up and yawns "What
a long Night!" peers out the window Drat, still raining.
TLG knocks on the door and hands her some
coffee.
"Thanks TLG, you read my mind. Have you
heard anything about Cruiser yet? Did anyone see her
link out? am I asking too many questions? is the radar
still blinking? is 24 a good TV show?"
I better
go up and check
